AHMEDABAD: Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM) activists held ‘Sachi Sadbhavana’ protest at Sardar Baug opposite Roopalee cinema at Lal Darwaza on Monday evening where participants called Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s three-day fast in the name of ‘Sadbhavana’ a farce. More than 100 people, mainly riot victims and human rights activists, participated in the three-hour event.
The same protest was planned at Naroda Patiya at 4 pm on Sunday where more than 50 persons including JSM activists were detained from the spot while trying to hold the programme. Later in the evening, police resorted to a lathicharge on women as the local agitation grew after the detentions. Senior police officials intervened in the issue and the detainees were released late in the evening.
Mukul Sinha of JSM told media on the occasion that while the chief minister proclaims Sadbhavana (goodwill) towards everybody, his intentions are seen in the actions right during the fast when the voice of the public was choked on Sunday. “I and my comrades were detained from the spot as if we were doing something unlawful from Naroda Patiya. When the general public cannot raise voice, what kind of goodwill the chief minster tries to propagate?” he said. He stated that they are going to give an open letter to the chief minster in the evening.
