Various trade unions and other social organizations like Jan Sangharsh Manch rallied under the banner of TUCI (trade union centre of India ) to demand for just and proper labor laws to counter onslaught of globalization. Over a thousand workers and other activist had gathered for a meeting at Juna Vadaj where several leaders addressed the meetings. Shri Amrish Patel, General Secretary of GFTU outlined the demands that were being raised by TUCI with the central Government on an all India basis. In the capital cities of over one dozen states in India , TUCI was holding the common program to demand the changes in labor law. The four demands were: 1. Enact law to nullify the pro-globalisation anti-labor Judements; 2. Law for the permanency and abolition of contract labor system; 3. Law providing for social security and housing for the urban poor; 4. Enforcement of the Building and Other Construction Workers Act. The participating workers thereafter held a major rally from Vadaj to the Collectors office to hand over a Memorandum address to the Labour Minister, Government of India.
