DGP, home dept get HC notice in Asaram violence case
Gujarat High Court on Thursday, sought explanations from the home department and the director general of police in connection with the violence that took place on July 18, where the disciples of Asaram Bapu had allegedly beaten up residents of Motera and media persons.
Acting on a demand by the Jan Sangharsh Manch for formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident, a division bench of acting Chief Justice MS Shah and Justice JC Upadhyay issued notices to state home secretary, DGP and Gandhinagar SP.
They have been asked to file their replies on Aug 22. The violence erupted on the day of Gurupurnima during an Ahmedabad bandh call after the bodies of two children - Dipesh and Abhishek Waghela were found on the Sabarmati riverbed on July 5. The NGO has also sought compensation for those injured in violence.
